Save the Cine Alameda: Renovate, Don’t Demolish

Dear Members of the Town Council,

I am writing to ask you to renovate the Cine Alameda, not demolish it. Built in 1952, our cinema could be the heart of downtown again.

First, the cinema is part of our history. Three generations of families saw their first movies there, and for visitors it is a hidden gem. A renovated Cine Alameda could show movies, host school concerts and encourage young people to start film clubs.

Second, renovation is the smarter choice. According to the architect who inspected the building, the walls and roof are strong, so repairs would cost 30% less than a new building.

Some people argue that a shopping center would create more jobs. However, a busy cinema would persuade visitors to stay downtown at night, which means jobs for nearby restaurants and stores.

I urge the council to vote for renovation next month, and I would encourage you to invite students and neighbors to help plan it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to give our town a place to meet again.

Sincerely,

Marco Salinas, engineering student
