💡 How it works

A slice of the future: the action is already in progress

You met will be + -ing in Grammar 10. Here is the closer look. Pick a use, move the marker with a time expression, and watch the action stretch around that moment — you picture yourself already doing it, not starting or finishing it. (will be + -ing = una acción que ya estará en curso en un momento futuro.)

🕒 Then or during?

Future simple vs. future progressive

will + base names a complete action or a decision at a point (then); will be + -ing paints an action in progress around that point (during). The third box is the form you would use for right now. (Simple = en ese momento, completa; progresivo = durante, en curso.)

will + base · simple
I will call you at eight.
a complete action or a decision · then
will be + -ing · progressive
At eight I will be having dinner.
an action in progress around a future moment · during
am / is / are + -ing · present continuous
She is living the dream right now.
an action in progress right now (for a fixed arrangement, see Grammar 10)
📍 Time markers that suit the future progressive: this time tomorrow · at 8 tonight · in an hour · this time next year · all day tomorrow.

👩‍🏫 For the teacher — how this page maps to the manual
    • Explore is Grammar 14 as a time slice: the three uses of the grammar box (in progress at a future time · future as a matter of course · polite enquiry about plans) drawn as a bar around a movable marker, with the manual’s time markers; the then/during card is the simple-vs-progressive table plus exercise A’s “right now”; the points-to-watch card is the exceptions box (stative verbs, polite vs. request, don’t drop be/-ing) with the negative/question forms and the Grammar 10 time-clause rule; the errors card is the pitfall list.
    • Build is productive: students assemble a sentence by choosing the time expression and the verb form (exercises B and C), then transform plans into in-progress sentences and ask/answer a polite Will you be…? question (Task set 31 and the mixed review), with validation.
    • Drill merges the quizzes into one graded engine (★ which use, simple or progressive, stative, polite · ★★ fix the error, complete, negative · ★★★ question form, in-progress rewrite, matter of course) with a score and streak.
