💡 How it works

Turn a noun or an adjective into a verb

English builds many verbs by adding a suffix to a noun or an adjective. Tap a base word, then tap the suffix that forges it. (Toca la base y luego el sufijo: no hay que arrastrar nada.)

1 · Tap a base word — noun or adjective
2 · Tap the suffix that forges the verb

Four suffixes, four meanings

Tap a suffix to see what it means, what kind of base it takes and the manual’s examples. (Los cuatro sufijos productivos del manual.)

✏️ Spelling

What changes when the suffix arrives

Most bases keep their shape, but some lose a letter or two — and one is irregular. (Cambios de ortografía al formar el verbo.)

🚫 Verbs that do not exist

Do not use the adjective as a verb

Spanish keeps the suffix (modernizar, simplificar), so the English verb needs one too. Without it, the word is still an adjective. (El adjetivo pelón no es verbo.)

-ise is not an error, it is British. organize / organise, realize / realise: both are correct, but pick one spelling and be consistent. This course uses American -ize.

👩‍🏫 For the teacher — how this page maps to the manual
    • Explore is Structure 7 made manipulable: the forge pairs every base word of the section with its suffix (tap the base, tap the suffix — no drag and drop, so it works on a phone), the dial holds the four-suffix table with its meanings and example lists, and two cards cover the spelling changes and the adjectives that are not verbs. The special-cases selector is the manual’s five exceptions; the last card is the pitfall box plus the Homework Book error hunt.
    • Build is productive: students assemble the twelve items of exercise A (stem + suffix), then transform — the verb forms of exercise B, the word-family table of exercise C and two rewrites from the mixed review — with validation and a model answer.
    • Drill merges the quizzes into one graded engine (★ choose the suffix · ★★ spelling changes and the adjective-as-verb error · ★★★ word families, -ification, US/UK consistency) with a score and streak.
    • Works offline. Reading/writing only — no audio.
