💡 How it works

Three pieces, one meaning

A phrasal-prepositional verb is verb + adverb + preposition. The meaning is idiomatic, so learn the whole unit, not the pieces. Tap a verb and watch the machine load all three boxes. (Tres piezas que se aprenden juntas: el significado no es la suma de las partes.)

⭐ The key rule

They don’t split — put the object somewhere

Tap the object, then tap the place where you think it goes. Only one slot works. (Toca el objeto y después la casilla: el objeto va siempre después de las tres piezas.)

① Tap the object · ② tap a slot
💡 Two pieces vs three pieces

The third piece changes the rule

In Unit 2 (Structure 5) some two-word phrasal verbs split, and a pronoun object even has to sit in the middle. Add a third piece and that freedom disappears. (Los de dos piezas pueden separarse; los de tres, nunca.)

Test yourself: if you can say the object in the middle, it is a two-part separable verb. With three parts there is no middle — the object waits at the end.

👩‍🏫 For the teacher — how this page maps to the manual
    • Explore is Structure 6 in four moves: the machine loads the twelve verbs of the manual table with their meanings; the tap-to-place test proves inseparability for nouns and pronouns; the two-vs-three comparison brings back Unit 2 Structure 5 (separable pick up, obligatory middle pronoun, inseparable look after); the special-cases card carries the four points of the exception box (inseparability, look forward to + -ing, register, stress on the middle word) and the errors card is the manual’s pitfall list plus come up against, one of the five verbs of the Unit 3 Check.
    • Build is productive: Assemble chooses the verb stem and the particle pair for the eight sentences of exercise B; Transform is exercise C (formal → phrasal) and exercise D (fix the word order or form), validated by text with a model answer.
    • Drill is one graded flow drawn from a bank of 25 items — 15 per attempt, five per level (★ meaning & recognition · ★★ word order and form · ★★★ -ing after to, pronoun position, register) with score, streak and best result on this device.
    • Works offline. Reading/writing only — no audio.
