💡 How it works

Someone makes someone else act: three slots

Verbs of advice, permission, orders and wishes share one skeleton: subject + verb + object + (not) + to + base form. Pick a verb on the dial and watch the machine fill the slots — the famous exceptions change the last one. (Alguien hace que otro actúe: verbo + objeto + infinitivo con to; make/let van sin to.)

💡 Three shapes, one skeleton

Positive, negative infinitive, negative verb

verb + object + infinitiveThe guide advised us to book early.
verb + object + not + infinitiveShe warned us not to swim at night.
negative verb + object + infinitiveWe don’t expect everyone to like camping.

This pattern is how English reports commands and advice: “Check in two hours early.” → The agent told me to check in two hours early. · “Don’t leave your passport in the room.” → He advised me not to leave it there. (Así se reportan órdenes y consejos — vuelve en Grammar 7.)

⭐ The famous exceptions

Seven verbs that break the skeleton

🚫 Error clinic

The three classic Spanish-speaker errors (+1)

Spanish uses que + subjunctive; English uses object + infinitive. Tap each sentence to fix it — guess before you check. (“Quiero que…” no se traduce con that.)

👩‍🏫 For the teacher — how this page maps to the manual
  • Explore is Grammar 6's rule table as a machine: the dial groups the verbs by the manual's four families (advice & persuasion, permission, orders & requests, wishes & expectations) plus the exceptions; the third slot turns purple when the complement is not a to-infinitive. The special-cases card follows the manual's list (make/let, help, suggest/recommend, want, prevent/stop, perception verbs, passive incl. be made to); the error clinic is the pitfall box.
  • Build is productive: students assemble a sentence by choosing the verb and the complement form, then transform quotes and Spanish sentences with a given verb (exercise C + the homework translation challenge), with validation.
  • Drill merges the quizzes into one graded engine (★ spot the pattern & choose the form · ★★ fix the error & complete · ★★★ suggest, want, passive & translation) with a score and streak.
  • Works offline. Reading/writing only — no audio.
